10 April 09:30-12:30 CEST

Dear Friends of the Ocean,

We invite you to an online workshop on co-design for regenerative ocean cultures on the 10th of April, between 09:30-12:30 CEST.

How can we design together for the emergence of regenerative relationships between citizens and the sea?

The workshop is part of the New European Bauhaus lighthouse project Bauhaus of the Seas Sails. The Bauhaus of the Seas Sails project supports seven cities across Europe in exploring new ways of living with the sea through inclusive and culturally-led activities.

The workshop is conceived as a journey. We will bring the Compass, in the form of a manual for rethinking relations, and ask you to bring your energy and ideas. Together, we will consider how we encounter the seas and waterways around us, the challenges that face us in adopting more-than-human approaches and the importance of engaging our senses and emotions, as we use exercises to ask:

  • How can we work towards regenerative (ocean) cultures?
  • How can we reconnect ourselves and others with waterbodies/nature?
  • How can we co-design with the Ocean and its creatures?

There will be time to consider the New European Bauhaus qualities [inclusive, sustainable and beautiful] and balance them with what we need to make our journey locally relevant. To explore the Compass ahead of the workshop, have a look here (there are several local languages): https://bauhaus-seas.eu/ocean-ambassadors-compass/. How might we apply these concerns to our work?

Workshop hosts
The workshop is hosted by Malmö University, the Marine Education Center in Malmö and the Forum for Social Innovation Sweden.

For whom is this workshop?
The workshop is for anyone interested in working with water, using the New European Bauhaus principles, working with co-design or generally working towards regenerative cultures. You don’t need a specific background. The workshop will be in English.

How can I attend?
The workshop will take place during the New European Bauhaus Festival on the 10th of April (09:30-12:30 CEST) via Zoom.  You will be able to download an ics-file to your calendar with the Zoom link once you have signed up.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to our workshop!

Bauhaus of the Seas Sails is part of the EU's New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative to promote a new maritime culture - a culture where the city and people are part of the sea. The vision for Bauhaus of the Seas Sails is to explore and demonstrate how culture and inclusion contribute to this.

The project involves seven countries Portugal, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Sweden. A total of 18 partners representing local authorities, universities, and civil society organizations. You can find all partners here.

Bauhaus of the Seas Sails in Sweden is run by Malmö University, Forum for Social Innovation Sweden,  and the Marine Education Center. Together we constitute project leaders in social innovation, nature guides, marine experts, and researchers in participatory design as well as design for sustainability.
